Branding Style

From the branding style I started to develop over the past few weeks I decided to create a simple one page branding document to set out how the brand would look.

Essay

I updated my essay further and designed the text into a magazine style. I used the branding style I developed to surround this essay and make it look more as if it could be a magazine. I made it colourful and fun – trying to be quite playful and free with the design.

I made a few different versions before developing it into something that I am happy with and think reflects my project well without being too distracting. The content of the essay is the most important part so I didn’t want to make it hard to read in any way.

Design Development

After thinking about potentially using a slide for the nose last week, I updated my digital drawing to show the steps and nose slide.

I updated my model in sketchup to refine it a bit more and add in the mechanisms. I also experimented with adding in a slide for the nose.

I think the nose works quite well and really makes the whole thing feel a bit like a playground. 

Surrounding area

I also designed some simple and Memphis group inspired benches to sit around the installation. These are a very important addition as I want the space to feel welcoming and entice people to linger there for a while watching. This will help those who are a bit more cautious to build up the courage to get involved and play as well as offering the opportunity for more interaction as people discuss the installation or help those trying to work out how to play with it. 

I then looked at how the installation would fit within a potential location for it.

I like the idea of having lines that lead people into the installation from around the location, so I looked at how these lines could look. I want them to look like a school playground as this will be very nostalgic for most adults and that should hopefully help to draw them in. 

Reflection

I keep working on the sketch up model to refine the design and how it is shown. As i am still very new to this software the model i have created is definitely not perfect and doesn’t show the installation exactly as i would like. But a 2D drawing of it doesn’t do the idea justice or show each section well so i think despite the small issues with creation, it is still definitely the best way to show it.
